I was curious about the book by y Saifedean Ammous as well, but found the maximalist approach off-putting.
Finally I decided to give it a try so I heard his speech at the Austrian Bitcoin Association in 2018 on YouTube, what I heard convinced me never to buy the book, but I still respect the author, he is an Austrian Economist, and has good intentions, besides selling more books.
For Bitcoin to succeed just being an speculative asset to get more fiat from your Bitcoin is not enough, we also need it to be what Satoshi wanted, a useful means to do transactions, and ideally make it as anonymous as cash. In both areas there is zero progress in Bitcoin itself, thankfully via L2s, Sidechains and Lightning there are some hopeful developments.
So 100% I agree with your assessment, the book will just give us more HODLers, not much more, and what we need is more cypherpunks, people like Satoshi Nakamoto.
