A publicly reachable node will add to bandwidth usage. So where Internet bandwidth costs are high, most nodes are non-listening nodes. That helps to explain the map above which shows only publicly accessible / reachable nodes.

It's becoming more and more obvious every day that running a full node on modest hardware, like mobile phones or tablets is becoming paramount for many millions of people in the planet who live in countries where even a Rasberry Pi or a second hand laptop are not an option. We have discussed this topic before at least a couple of times that I'm aware of:

How does this setup compare to a humble laptop? You can pick up a Thinkpad with 8Gb RAM and 256Gb SSD from Amazon for under $200. Laptops also come with a case, screen, cooling, built-in battery in case of power failures, etc.
Raspberry Pis are cool, but I don't understand why they're pushed so heavily when it comes to running nodes. Am I missing something?
