This song completely surprised me. Since you said it was for national day (and since I had never previously heard a Singpore National Day song), I was expecting something much more martial/marching band style. This sounds like Christian music!
This is 100% correct. They say familiarity breeds contempt, but it's not as simple as that. The familiar is comfortable, and we do like to be comfortable. I can't say how many times I've come to like a food or a song simply because of repetition.
Thank you for listening to it!
When I was growing up, the songs sounded more serious and preachy. Example here. However, they have mellowed down to (bubblegum) pop-like ones to appeal to the young generation.
Wrt parades, we actually celebrate this milestone with a National Day parade. This is where we have marches and military demonstrations led by our armed forces. My wife calls us Happy North Korea. Such an annoying comment, but I have to agree with her.
Yup. I am confident that most of my students like me even though I am very strict and firm with them. Cue bellowing. That’s because they see me every day haha
