pull down to refresh

Overall this was a really interesting article, and I'm glad to see that this topic is getting into mainstream media (though people are pretty negative in the comments).
As a carnivore myself, now about 19 months in, I wonder how my kids would have turned out had I skipped the heavy carbs and sugar, and just raised them on mostly animal foods. But no, I followed mainstream advice back then, with all the rice cereal, etc.
This quote, expressing concerns about how much vitamin C the kids are getting, is egregious.
Some pediatricians are very concerned. Small children need vitamin C, which is involved in the healthy development of cartilage and connective tissue, and fiber, which is important for digestion and the functioning of the gut microbiome, said Mark Corkins, a pediatric gastroenterologist at the University of Tennessee and chairman of the American Academy of Pediatrics’ committee on nutrition.
A unbiased medical professional with any research ability would know that vitamin C is only necessariy in nanograms, not milligrams, on a very low cab diet. And it can be easily derived from animal products. (I'm going to write up another post on that topic soon).
And of course the actual evidence - carnivore babies growing up happy and healthy, without scurvey - is right there, staring them in the face. Not to mention numerous human societies throughout history that were 100% carnivore, like the Eskimo.
It's what I would expect, though. Mark Corkins is linked to the American Academy of Pediatrics, which is known to be completely owned by the pharmaceutical and vaccine industry.
There's one quote from a pediatrician who wasn't completely anti-meat:
Meat is a good food for babies and toddlers because it provides essential nutrients like iron, zinc and protein, said Steven Abrams, a professor of pediatrics at the Dell Medical School at the University of Texas at Austin. The forms of protein and iron in meat are easily used by the body.
Abrams laments the state of the baby-food aisle at the supermarket today: The little glass jars of meat purées have largely disappeared, he says, replaced by squeezable pouches of yogurt and fruit and vegetable goo that often contain little iron.
But still, he also promotes this misinformation:
And children need the fiber, antioxidants and polyphenols in fruits and vegetables.
(If you're curious about why I think that's misinformation, a great source of info is the book The Big Fat Surprise, by Nina Teicholtz. I wrote a whole post on it This book is blowing my mind - The Big Fat Surprise by Nina Teicholtz.
Also she has lots of interviews on Youtube, if you don't want to read the whole book.

newborns who breast feed are animal based dieters. carnivore may be a little much for a toddler but animal based with fruit is totally doable

There are so many books arguing completely opposing ideas on food. Hard to know what to believe. Tend toward growing as much as I can myself and eating what tastes good. Definitely prefer butter to margarine.
