TL:DR
The two-on-one combined cycle configuration is designed to improve efficiency and reliability, supporting Duke Energy’s grid modernisation strategy and projected demand growth in the US Carolinas.
While no official cost has been disclosed, similar US combined cycle plants of this scale typically represent a multi-hundred-million-dollar investment, potentially approaching US$1 billion, depending on site, technology, and market conditions.
Zachry will deliver the project under a full EPC model, from design through commissioning and start-up, before handing over to Duke Energy for operations. To help meet labour demands, the company will host local job fairs in Person County, North Carolina to support project hiring.
Site clearing is under way, with major construction scheduled to start in late 2025. Commercial operation is targeted for between 2028 and 2029.
