That’s an interesting topic for a pod. 

It would be nice if there were a bit more variety in possible ways to build good teams.

True especially in the last year 30-40 years of football. Maybe in the 1980s someone like LT could win you a Super Bowl with meh QB play but now it’s so hard to overcome thanks to all the nerfing of defense via rule changes.
