Today I noticed that Bitcoin Meme Feed Telegram channel copy-pasted a Nostr post from my Bitcoin Calendar project while hiding the link to the original archive, associated with the project's website. Such practice became the norm unfortunately, but it still got me somewhat angry.
I didn't plan to create a Telegram bot for English-speakers, but since I already had one I made for fellow Russian-speaking comrades, I decided to enable it to post in English to a dedicated channel.
I guess, bottom line is: if you have any normie friends who actively use Telegram and you think may benefit from a feed of historical Bitcoin events, feel free to share this new Bitcoin Calendar Telegram channel with them.
For the true freedom tech connoisseurs there's a Nostr account.
If you want to have an overview of all documented events, or dig deeper into Bitcoin history, visit my website – it has calendar view, search capabilities and just today I added categories and filtration (more on that in tomorrow's post).
By the way, I only recently noticed the existence of @CHADBot here on SN #1075719. Didn't realize there were bots here, at least not the ones that post.
So it got me thinking if I could create a Bitcoin Calendar Bot for SN. The reason for my interest is two-fold:
  • I believe the community could (more often than not) benefit from having historical Bitcoin events to discuss – such events often help us learn from history, meaning we may avoid future traps the world is preparing for us.
  • This community is like no other and I am sure Bitcoin Calendar project would benefit from the collective knowledge of SN plebs. In fact it already had more than once: #942058, #947707, #947887
What do you say, @k00b? Who's blessing do I need to get and where can I start if I go for it?

Thanks for your interest! We have API keys but since our resources are limited (don't want to become bot support, fight against abuse etc.), we enable them for accounts on a case-by-base basis for now.
I like your idea! I will get back to you regarding this within four weeks, if not earlier. We still have some important stuff to finish before we can start to think about handing out new API keys or even API key access by default.

Thanks a lot for your reply! It’s actually good that I’ll have another month to polish a few things.
I’ll also be happy to adjust the publications to best fit Stacker News instead of posting everything I gathered in the database — while I’m working on having as many milestones and Bitcoin related events documented as possible, I understand that not all of them will be beneficial for SN community.
Thanks for your work and looking forward to your reply.
P.S. sorry, didn’t notice the API info - checked FAQ and decided that the best way was to tag k00b and ask directly.

That's cool. Maybe I'll make an Android and iOS calendar import file for this also.

Would be nice, thank you. I do have the .ics file preparation on the roadmap, but didn’t yet look into how exactly to tackle this.
Most of the project is open source, and you are welcome to take a closer look.
P.S. please do not judge strictly - I vibe coded the whole thing, cause I’m not a dev, but an educator first. Nevertheless I’m super excited to have an opportunity to leverage modern tech to turn my research into something whole and visually appealing for the curious ones.

Cool! I have it exported in the correct format now, just fixing the headers before converting it to an .ics file. I'll share when complete.

Happy to hear you liked it!
I actually just created a dedicated @bitcal account for Bitcoin Calendar here and published a more detailed post on what the project already has to offer. You can find it here #1127364
Stay tuned for more 🫡
