People die every day, and amongst them are Bitcoin owners who are self-custodying. There are millions of Bitcoins already lost, and more are being lost as people (Bitcoin self-custody holders) die without properly passing on their Bitcoin holdings, or they are lost when keys are misplaced (although this is rare lately).
Bitcoin inheritance solutions exist, and more are being developed; however, most of them are still largely quite technical for an average local user to understand and navigate through.
If we want to make it easy to use, we'd most likely end up with custodial solutions (A lot of Bitcoiners will frown at this), but let's assume we have to live we what we currently have while we try to modify it, more could be lost along the way.
Eventually, we'll get to a point where the Literacy level is high, and we are not losing so many Bitcoins anymore, but then by then we'd have lost a reasonable amount.
At this point, we've reached HyperBitcoinization. Because of the lost and inaccessible Bitcoins, we'd likely have Bitcoin's Fiat value incredibly high with a gradual deflation at that point, with Sats gone above fiat parity.
If we must still use Bitcoins as a medium of exchange, what do we do then?
- Bitcoin Full or Fractional banking?
- Soft Fork to further make Sats divisible?
- Other solutions?
I'm just thinking into the future....
