After numerous failed log in attempts using my SN account linked to Twitter, due to Twitter being down intermittently I remembered that SN now supports multiple log-in methods simultaneously.
So now once I was finally able to log back in to SN using my Twitter account, I then added my e-mail as a login method. So if (when) in the future Twitter is down again, I can just switch to logging in via e-mail.
Just though I'ld share this tip in case it benefits anyone else as well.

If you on damus and you have no clue how to upload an image to change your profile pic do this
“Find a gif you like on https://giphy.com, upload that to https://nostrimg.com and then change the link in your profile”
Can’t copy and paste links on mobile into nostrimg but you can select a photo from your camera roll

The community seems to be really into Nostr lately.
I wonder if this is the holy grail of the Bitcoin ecosystem or yet another piece of the puzzle that makes the hurdle for newbies higher 🤔🤔
reply
Not a holy grail, but definitely a peice in the puzzle of forming a more free and decentralized internet. I don't think it's a new hurdle for newbies though. You don't have to use nostr to be a bitcoiner, and you don't have to hodl bitcoin to use nostr. They are symbyotic, but seperate, so new bitcoiners don't need to even worry about it in the beginning of their journey.

This post got me interested. If nostr becomes what many of us think it can become, what does it mean for businesses like stacker.news and Twitter? Given you retweeted the question @k00b, do you have any thoughts that can be shared?
reply
I don't think it will entirely replace platforms like SN, but who knows. Protocols like email are comparably versitile (I know there are key differences but bear with me) yet they are not the only method we use for p2p style communication. Same thing is likely to happen with nostr, especially since other fediverse protocols have been gaining traction. Likely, we'll have a variety of platforms and protocols with varied degrees of decentralization. Such a world leaves plenty of room for standalone sites like SN.

I share my thoughts on putting SN on nostr here (still very interested in doing it): #57574
Half-measures like NIP-05 and simply publishing everything to nostr are immediate term interesting. In general, I don't really like half measures but if it's what people want I will work on it.

You were all over this back in August 🤯 Well given the quality of community that has been built here, I have faith that stacker.news will evolve in the right way. I really appreciate your attention to decentralising the infrastructure that underpins stacker.news. 🧡

What's the Stacker News pubkey on Nostr? Or has it not been set up yet?
reply
I have a personal, but SN doesn't have one yet.
