The fact that warrant canaries are used at all is an indication that the world is absolutely messed up. The restriction on speech that NSLs impose is a bald-faced violation of the First Amendment. Any company could trivially win a case against those restrictions, but none have even bothered. Companies are so afraid of intelligence agencies that they have abandoned what little protections the US Constitution provides.
