FOSA
Free and Open Source Art.
Free and open source software (FOSS) is what makes Bitcoin great. What happens if we apply these same principles of collaboration and access to the worthy cause of creating children’s books? I suspect that a hive mind of asynchronously talented hornets who are free to add their flair whenever inspiration strikes will prove to be a powerful artistic force.
Introducing The Bitcoin Storybook Workshop
Children’s books that teach Bitcoin-related principles in irresistibly wonderful ways.
Created in the Bitcoin way - free and open source art.
The Bitcoin Storybook Workshop CC BY-SA License
The Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license permits and encourages others to remix, adapt, and build upon previous work even for commercial purposes, as long as the derivative works give credit to the inspiration that birthed them and are identically licensed for others to freely use.
How to Contribute
The goal is to enable anyone anywhere to contribute whatever whenever they want. No gatekeepers. Some will want to to remix and release their own versions on their own website. Others will want to produce an audiobook version for their YouTube channel. Whatever flavor people choose to contribute, there needs to be a common thread that pulls it all together. Some way to focus the frenzy of unfettered creation.
The Bitcoin Storybook Workshop CC BY-SA license is that common thread. #BitcoinStorybookWorkshop
By making it clear that your work is licensed under the Bitcoin Storybook Workshop CC BY-SA license, you make it easier for people to find and enjoy your work. This happens in two ways. First, as the Bitcoin Storybook Workshop brand gains recognizability, people will be specifically searching for work that falls under its umbrella, which means they’ll be searching for your work. Second, by associating your work with the Bitcoin Storybook Workshop CC BY-SA license you inspire others to create and share as you have done, which accelerates brand recognizability, which feeds back into the first point. A positive feedback loop.
Artwork
Sometimes a writer needs an artist to finish a story.
If you’ve got artistic skill and a story inspires you, go for it. Add your artistic flair and elevate the words on the page into a beautiful world that you are proud to call your own.
Or perhaps you are inspired by a story that is already illustrated. No worries. Multiple artistic renditions is a beautiful thing.
Get inspired. Add your flare. Share it with the world. The world will thank you.
Writing
Sometimes an artist needs a writer to finish a story.
If you are a weaver of words, go for it. Flow your prose onto the page and elevate whatever previous art inspired you into something new that you are proud to call your own.
Get inspired. Add your flare. Share it with the world. The world will thank you.
Derivative Works
It is worth reiterating here the culture that Bitcoin Storybook Workshop is trying to cultivate, which is one of recognition and respect.
Recognize the work of others done before you.
Respect their work, even if you judge it as being poor.
If you see something from the Bitcoin Storybook Workshop that you think has legs, but fell short of what you imagine it could be, then go for it. Add your flair and make it your own. Share it with the world, and the world will thank you. But remember recognition and respect. Golden rule and all that.
Commercialization
If you want to produce books or merchandise to sell for profit, be our guest. We won’t demand a sat. You do the work, you get the money.
But, you’d be wise to compensate your favorite Bitcoin Storybook Workshop creators to keep your cash cow going.
Distribution
Sometimes good creations need better distribution channels to get the appreciation they deserve. Contribute your talents to building better distribution solutions to take the Bitcoin Storybook Workshop to the next level.

Behind the Scenes
The complete lack of interest in the first 2 editions of Fat Fred has been fantastically motivating :). Rather than give up, I keep going at it.
I must admit, the disinterested plebs were right. I didn’t find myself reading the first 2 editions to my own kids because I didn’t have a suitable format. A hardback copy would be best, but a PDF to easily swipe on a tablet could be nice too.
Not only is the format improved, and parts of the story, but the artwork as well. This time the text plays an integral role to the artwork. For example, the hidden, washed out words casting a shadow in one of my favorite pages below.
Future Editions
Not sure how many editions it’s going to take until somebody else enjoys a children’s book I write, but I’m here to find out.
