is it possible to be more bullish on lightning than bitcoin? I keep getting more bullish on lightning (as long as its built on the most secure network in the world) but I think at this point its ability to change the world is crazy

weird looks like bitcoinization might be more advanced in costa rica than El salvador. I remember this couple going to el salvador and it was alot harder to use actually I guess because of how political it became.
reply
In El Salvador you can pay with Bitcoin anywhere, whereas in Costa Rica they just have this specific marketplace that they decided to create.
So, in reality, it's way better in El Salvador.
What happened in "The Bitcoin Jungle" can be replicated instantly anywhere in the world. You don't need to have Bitcoin as legal tender to do that.
reply
It's not just one marketplace anymore, it's now almost all businesses in Uvita and villages closeby (like in Dominical)
reply
You cannot use Bitcoin "anywhere" in El Salvador. In my 3 trips there, I encountered pretty significant resistance to taking Bitcoin even when they have a posted sign saying its accepted.
In Bitcoin Jungle, we have way more than just one market. There are 3 farmer markets, 5-10 hotels, 15-20 restaurants, 15-20 tourist activities and other various service providers (like massage therapist, holistic doctors, landscaping services, transport services, etc) spread over 3 towns.
When you ask to pay in Bitcoin here, nobody rolls their eyes at you..they simply ask "lightning or on-chain?"..and yes, they know the difference.

Okay this sounds like my next vacation spot. Is it safe there?
reply
Yes, it's safe. Some petty theft stuff it you leave your valuables unattended at the beach. Tons of expats living here, we all feel safe. Feel free to DM us on Twitter or Nostr (preferred) if you want to know more.
reply
Great to know, hopefully it continues to grow. Pura Vida!

They only showed some seconds per transaction. They probably had some trouble in the background we didn't see. Great so many accept it. Even without "free sats" and rule's from gov.
Love this couple.

Great video!

Great to see many of the vendors using BTCPay Server. What is the most common POS? And do people generally use the Jungle wallet? In the video I have seen some Muun.
reply
The most common POS in Bitcoin Jungle is BTCPayServer - we help set it up for the merchants. They can either self-host or use our shared instance. Most merchants use the Bitcoin Jungle wallet w/ a Cold Card for long term sat storage. Though ofc everyone is free to use whatever POS/wallet they want. We just want people to use Bitcoin, doesn't matter if they use our tools or not.

This is great, and the best is that they didn't have to ask permission to anyone to open up shop and sell their products, and receive money.
reply
Superb! Thanks for that. And now do Germany or any other of the WEF-infected shitholes over here. People are dumbed-down to being servants of their ECB overloards that they are defending their corrupt and tumbling system that is continually steeling from them. It's disgusting to read what I as a Bitcoiner sometimes get to hear as response to my critics of the ECB... Mainstream Media is so deeply corrupted that it's funny again
reply
Why not do it yourself in your town? All we did to start Bitcoin Jungle was start talking one-on-one with local business owners about the benefits Bitcoin can offer their business.
We didn't ask for permission, we didn't raise some seed round with venture capitalists, we just talked with people.
You can do it, too :).

I am fighting on my battleground with my media work. Here in Málaga where I live most of the time there are I think 6 or 7 stores that accept BTC via LN. I will start using it in a small bistro near my home just to learn a bit more about the state of adoption here in Andaluzía. But it looks like a real rocky pathway...
reply
Keep up the good fight, brother! Glad to hear there is some adoption where you are. I can assure you it is very helpful to just use BTC where it is accepted- it reinforces with the merchants that we Bitcoiners are numerous and ever present.
reply
We'll be doing our best over here. The adoption in my family reached 100%, some friends of mine got it too and imagine that: some also get the macro environment and do not fall into panic in this btc winter.... greets yo You

My concern with Costa Rica is the extradition policy with USA.
Alot of us going to be crypto refugees soon. And the empire is going to try and make sure to get its share!
reply
Yes Rikki and Laura!! I’ll be in Costa Rica in November and would love to help out however possible.

Rikki and Laura are so bloody great. Will almost certainly be in Costa Rica, November 2023!
