They might try and trap him with a franchise tag but it'll be hella expensive

Makes no sense. Why pay the guy a ton of money when he is still walking as a FA at the end of the year. Give him a couple mill extra and tell him sit or go and ball out so you can get paid like a top 5 guy, your choice.
