I don’t know if you have landed yourself in similarly hot waters before, but yup, I received a warning letter recently.
So, I took the initiative to ask my Reporting Officer for a fortnightly meetup so that I could share some of the things I have tried successfully and other things I have failed miserably with my class. Basically, describe behaviours that won’t lead to me shouting at poor hapless 11-year-olds in the future.
She gave it an official spin by terming it as a coaching practice.
So today was my first coaching practice with her. Everything went on swimmingly; I got a few practical tips from her; and she asked me to sum up the learning takeaways of our session.
Rationally, I applauded it as a brilliant move. She wanted to ensure that we were on the same page because we did discuss many things, so what were exactly the main points? And my pride kinda got in the way because I felt like a small boy again, reiterating the key points with my authoritarian army officer…or my wife.
Nonetheless, I mentally stored this move (get people to summarise the main takeaways) in my head in case I become a coach one day haha

That actually sounds like a really valuable practice. Summarizing takeaways might feel a bit humbling, but it’s also a way to anchor learning so it doesn’t get lost. Maybe that’s what coaching is about—turning small discomforts into lasting growth.

Indeed, I should focus on the lasting growth bit. Thanks for sharing your insights

Yes, I received an intensive course to strengthen my sales skills! And I currently belong to a study group where we discuss Bitcoin and financial education. We've been doing this for over a year now, and I'm very happy!

Look at you strengthening your mind in more ways than one!

Not exactly, but I had a mentor when I started teaching.
We were both interested in things like curriculum design, so it was mostly bouncing ideas off of each other.

I hope you get back to teaching when the time is right

I'll start looking again
