Its super super hard to have a trade surplus when everyone has a tariff on your goods 😂 now we are seeing a reverse happen and time will tell.
Africa is facing increasing crop failures and political instability. I don't see China deploying troops and they sure haven't in Pakistan to protect their belt and road port that has increasingly gotten bombed by separatists. They have even killed Chinese Nationals and the response has been mute.
China’s reliance on Brazil for meat imports is staggering and an issue for China. The US used to lead area but has fallen to the forth largest exporter to China still after all the years of trade wars. Thailand and New Zealand and number two and three and focus mostly on vegetables, fruits, and dairy products. Thailand is facing an increasing water issue not just in the amount with huge floods and droughts but also the water quality.
China has been buying up US farmland in huge numbers until recently when some of the sales have either been rejected or reversed. These were areas that had constant water and did not suffer from water related issues or environmental contamination.
Combining your outlook of Africa with China and water quality look no further than earlier this year. Sino-Metal’s Zambia copper mine had a water retention pond break and spilled an estimated 50 million liters of highly concentrated and toxic metals into the Kafue River a vital waterway for millions for farming and drinking. The initial spill led to fish dying in the river 100 km a way and once the rains and floods hit the contamination is going to spread because it wasn't cleaned up at all.
Why do we think Russian tech is good anymore? Have you seen how bad it has been in action across multiple theaters? Not only has homemade Ukrainian outdone them but so has Western in the Middle East with Israel. Iran was supposed to be untouchable from air like Iraq was in the 90’s and the failure was remarkable. Meanwhile Western air defenses clearly remain supreme.
Russia has its own historic failure in technology I mean in the 2000’s they lost two subs during sea trials, they finally stopped towing around their only aircraft carrier and honestly need to scrap it given the money hole it has become, they lost critically important planes to Ukraine creaking a frankin SAM system plus the drone attacks that they just had no defense for what so ever.
You have seen the data that India has paused its oil purchases from Russia over secondary sanctions right? Even if they do not India and the USSR had a very unique relationship when it came to oil trading outside the dollar. Its nothing new but it crushes Russia.
You mention the discount then say sanctions are not hurting. Russia’s budget is based off of $69.70 a barrel oil. In May it was trading at $48.92 and the big Russian Oil companies just released there numbers losing 10s of billions. Mind you they have to repair all the damage that has been done as well as fund their own private armies still.
Russia can't keep up this type of monetary and economic loss. They only have so much to give China and NK and with China they are maxing out unless they end up returning the land they occupied in the closing days of WWII that was going to be returned to China but Stalin look it for his own denying China not only their historical lands but key ports cities. Neither China nor NK can provide enough to keep Ukraine safe compared to having 30 countries helping Ukraine. It's a pure numbers game.
In the last couple of weeks Russia lost an absolute wild number of troops both KIA and captured in there failed breakthrough in the Donbass. Russian Mil bloggers have been outraged since it happened because they didn't fortify their flanks allowing Ukraine to just cut off the base and beat them back.
Trump claimed he could stop the war in Ukraine in his first day in office.
Hes now had 8 months and its still going.
US has been hugely protectionist due to massive lobbies like the farmers who block dairy exports from New Zealand while NZ has had zero tariffs on US since the 1980s.
USA ditching the TPPPA agreement left its asia pacific trade partners to go it alone, led by Japan, and now China has joined the TPPPA leaving USA isolated. The USA is a spoiled cry baby bully that overturned existing FTAs with trade partners and imposes new terms upon them in breach of international law because it can because it dominates the institutions that are supposed to enforce international law.
Everyone but the most biased taxpayer funded US Exceptionalist propagandists can see the USA is now a rogue state supporting other rogue states like Israel who orchestrate genocide and terror in their region.
The USA has abandoned the international rule of law that it once championed and upheld and increasingly abused to maintain its global resource and protocols hegemony.
Naturally the rest of the world is now recalculating their alliances and recognising that USA cannot be trusted.
The use of the USD as a reserve currency is in terminal decline as increasingly trade is not conducted via SWIFT but via alternatives such as Chinas CIPS and mBridge alternatives.
Good luck to the US Treasury selling the $7 Billion debt that needs to be rolled over before Christmas- even if the FED can be bullied to lower the official rates it does not mean the international markets will buy USTs at a those rates.
US authority and leverage in the global financial markets is reaching a point where it collapses and then very rapidly the viability of Empire USA collapses too...because it is now built upon a massive pile of debt.
Not just the marginal nations who had been repeatedly attacks with US drones strikes (again in breach of international law) but nearly all nations including Europe and BRICS now see USA as a rogue state that is desperately trying to maintain its exceptional privilege but that no longer even pretends to be a fair and neutral player.
When the president of the US is openly engaged in blatant conflicts of interest involving multiple commercial arrangements including shady crypto deals and arranging arms sales for US military suppliers the rest of the world notices and reacts accordingly.
Increasingly China is seen as a more reliable partner in trade and one that does not use and has not used its military leverage and force to advantage its merchants.
