Why do you designers think that removing internal information about the working of a machine is a good thing? Why for example during the years many cars removed the coolant temperature indicator? "You don't need to know that info" is a very bad explanation, since the user can easily ignore what he doesn't "need". (This is just an exapmle, there are many such things in every item).
I don't think it depends on designers! I wish someone would ask. Usually these decisions are driven by business.
In your example, not showing the temp indicator increase the chances the car brake, meaning more work for insurance, road assistance, mechanics, and as car brake, people will change car more often instead of fixing it.
