I can easily see why he would take this deal as even the vesting option is super super low but man would it have been wild to see him hit the market!
I could have seen some teams offering him $20+ million for a year alone but its clear he likes Boston and is absolutely crushing it there! I'm not sure how many have heard about what he changed that has changed his whole career but its WILD!
It wasn't until he was with Boston that they told him to aim for a specific area (I want the ball low and inside) and the idea of aim small miss small kicked off! Before that he even says he was told to just throw his fastball without much if any direction! He's 37!!!! He's been in the league well over a decade and its only now he has been told to pitch to specific spots?!? Imagine what could have been if he had done so all along!
If he had done that all along he might have flamed out. He had immense speed but little control when he was younger. Probably needed to be more seasoned and throw a bit slower to be more precise. Good deal for the Red Sox.

Agreed! I cannot imagine throwing 100/101 at 37 like he has! I mean sure he could have an arm injury that wipes out next year but as it stands now he's going to make a nice easy $26 mil!

It's pretty amazing he still throws that hard. Although I think he sits more around 98 now with that extra juice when he really needs it.
