Counterparties... Lol.
I have to travel LONG distances to find anywhere to spend Bitcoin and the merchants I talk to? Maybe 1-2 times a month they have someone who wants to "pay in Bitcoin."
And that's in Bitcoin-centric cities within countries. In the States the vast majority of the merchants I've spoken with "don't take it anymore" because noone showed up.
So what do you mean that you're "out here spending"?

If Bitcoin is to become a "medium of exchange" we have to use it, right? What good is the HODL forever, never touch your bitcoin, put it in a shoebox forever never do anything with it mentality?
I don't know any Bitcoiners in person... and the concept of "spending Bitcoin" is a totally alien concept to 99% of the people I've dealt with.
There's no shortage of BS-people and suitcoiners and degens and "crypto-traders" but there are very few real Bitcoiners using their Bitcoin.

But if no one is accepting it and it's alien to everyone - who are you sending all these transactions to that you just showcased you're spending?

I only did 1 transaction today thus far (across every thinkable MoE), which was to repay a friend that picked up a bottle of wine for me, and I did it over LN. LN doesn't help you gaining visibility into my transactions, which is exactly why I use that: so that you cannot see where I am, or even that I am. It's none of your damn business, or that of anyone, also not the spooks in the back.

I know. Lightning is amazing. I keep asking the cab/uber driver if they "take Lightning" and I haven't found even one who knows what the hell I'm talking about.
I hope we'll get there eventually one day.

Personally, I never use the word "lightning" unless I know I'm dealing with someone who is already well versed with Bitcoin. Average people cannot be expected to parse technical jargon, which is what Lighting is.
Similar to how average people use the word "the internet" to refer to one very large, very technical, multi-layered monolith. We should be using the word "Bitcoin" and only that word.
Similar to my comment here about how we should approach L3's like Fedimint: #769472
Let's not confuse people. There's already too much noise and confusion in the "crypto" world, which is what they view Bitcoin as being a part of. They will think "Lightning" is a new cryptocurrency, and roll their eyes.

Even my good friends 'roll their eyes' when I mention Lightning... they just kinda chuckle + roll their eyes.
Have they ever used it? No. Do they they have the slightest idea as to what a 'Lightning wallet' is? No. How it works? No idea.
I tell them I believe we'll basically all have Lightning wallets in 10 years and they're like... 'OK maybe you're right' but they don't want to learn anything else they don't even ask questions.
I never under any circumstances mention Bitcoin to cab/Uber drivers because they will think:
  1. you will give them a whole Bitcoin (which is 'a lot' they think)
  2. I'm afraid of getting robbed even though I don't have a whole Bitcoin anyway much have access to one on an Uber??????
  3. They will think i'm a scammer/weird person
  4. They will think this is some part of some kind of weird crypto-pitch... and I 'want something' from them otherwise why would I give them something for free???
  5. Or they'll think I'm some weird tech startup/crazy person/scammer and either they'll rob me or I'll scam them.
This is basically the state of "Bitcoin" among normies today.
So I never mention Bitcoin in those circumstances. If they have a "lightning wallet" then that's different... they already know what it is but I haven't found ANY drivers that have the slightest clue what I'm talking about.
