I share Linus view that it's a net positive that a language, regardless of its stated potential, generates in people the incentive to do stuff, and Rust definitely can be credited with generating a wave of enthusiasm on low level software in the frontend era. That said, its community pedantic approach to everything has been one of the reasons I don't even want to look at it. C is to software what latin is to language. You can't possibly write software that's more secure than that written in a language that has remained essentially immutable since its inception. Iteration beats longshots, always.
