Perhaps, but I think what's abnormal is how large you draw that circle of perceived enemies is, and how much atrocity you would tolerate being done to them.
I'm not trying to sound morally superior or anything, but when Osama Bin Laden was killed and people in New York were celebrating in the streets, I genuinely felt uncomfortable. To me, a man's life was taken. Yes, he probably deserved to be killed, but to me it's a somber moment, not a celebratory one.
Maybe i'm too influenced by Chapter 1 of A Game of Thrones, where Ned Stark executes a criminal, and teaches his son why it's necessary but not something to be enjoyed.
I thought you were about to reference scripture.
I felt the same way, but maybe I would have felt differently if they had gotten him much faster.
