nothing about Naylor’s physique would suggest any baserunning prowess. He stands 5-foot-10, is listed at 235 pounds and has a body type that bears a strange resemblance to a refrigerator.
It turns out he moves about as quickly as one, too. According to data from Statcast, Naylor ranks in the second percentile in the major leagues in sprint speed. There is almost nobody in the entire sport who runs slower than him.
Which is what makes this next part so shocking: Josh Naylor has helped turn the Mariners into a serious championship contender—by becoming one of the best base-stealers in baseball.
Fun article. Gives hope to stocky guys like myself, haha. Thought I'd use my WSJ subscription to share the unlocked article with everyone.

He is the best fat guy base stealer in baseball. I wouldn't go as far as saying best base stealer. Unlikely this is repeatable as teams will start paying attention to him as a base running threat. He probably picked up a lot of these steals simply because the other team assumed the slow, fat guy wasn't going to run. Changing leagues midseason probably helped with that as well as he played a new set of teams to surprise in the second half.
Canada's own Josh Naylor is a smart baseball player and that is the first ingredient of being a good baseball stealer.

Sounds similar to Linsanity. He was able to explode in 2012, but probably only because teams weren't game planning for him or scouting him at all. Once they knew what he was capable of, he wasn't able to reproduce the same level of output. Though for Lin, injuries played a part in that too.
