I actually woke up earlier from another one of those "I should post these ideas on SN" sequences, although it was several hours ago by now.
There were a few personal things that probably don't belong online after lucid consideration, although it's interesting that my subconscious included them in the bunch of ideas that survived awakening; my guess is that they were from a previous or parallel sequence, and the unrelated sequences got bunched together.
The main interesting idea, which I began trying to record a few years ago although gave up after a few minutes, is about this problem of recording ideas from dreams. It's a ritual I've tried many times, with varying success, and two main takeaways:
- The medium used for recording has a strong influence on which ideas get explored in greater depth and which get abandoned; scribbling on paper is my ideal, although I don't often have the foresight of placing the writing materials at hand when going to sleep.
- The mental spaces of sleep, hypnagogia, and wakefulness correspond directly to mathematical spaces containing the relationships between the concepts used to describe ideas occuring within them. Whatever chaos occurs during dreams gets narrowed down when passing through hypnagogia, and while only the concepts that have some definitions across all three spaces survive, even these might have changed relationships, leading to some of the retrospective weirdness.
I'm hesitant to do a more detailed writeup because, as you can probably tell by now, these ideas are quite disorganised and I haven't got a disciplined ritual yet... although it could help in organising them.
