For way too long we have let people get away with lying to Congress. Both sides do it and honestly I’m so sick and tired of having to deal with it firsthand in these hearings.
They stem from an exchange between Comey and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) during a Sept. 30, 2020 Senate Judiciary Committee hearing. Cruz asked Comey if he had ever authorized a leak about the FBI’s investigations into Hillary Clinton’s emails and connections between the Trump campaign and Russia. The question zeroed in on conflicting accounts between Comey and his former deputy, Andrew McCabe, regarding a leak to The Wall Street Journal about the Clinton investigation days before the 2016 election.
“What Mr. McCabe is saying and what you testified to this committee cannot both be true. One or the other is false. Who’s telling the truth?” Cruz pressed. Comey responded, “I can only speak to my testimony. I stand by the testimony you summarized.”
Trump allies and other Republicans have within the last few years been charged, convicted, and sentenced for the almost the exact same thing. People include Roger Stone, Michael Cohen, Steve Bannon, and more.
History has also shown that high ranking members of the Government are not immune with H.R. Haldmean, Nixon’s first White House chief of staff, was charged, convicted, and spent time behind bars. Same thing with Caspar Weinberger one of Reagan’s Defense Secretary’s.
This crap needs to end and if people don’t want to tell the truth or be caught up obstructing Congress well there are consequences to your actions.
