Its good that nostr exists.
But it is a niche platform with very limited reach. For now.
Most people are using captured/censored platforms like X, facebook, tiktok.
I get it. It's a big loss for freedom to express that particular view.
Neither college nor tiktok have been good for free expression, though, and it's better that more people realize that.

Hmm, there were actually many anti Israel taking over Gaza and killing/starving Palestinian protests across college campuses before the Trump admin shut them down via either force or threatening to withhold federal funding from those colleges if they allowed the protests to continue.

Perhaps they'll learn the errors of shutting down speech they don't like and change university rules, now that they're on the receiving end of cancel culture.
reply
I can't believe I'm gonna defend the left, but I think this is worse. Using raw government power and money to shut down speech is worse than the social bullying that the left did. The social bullying is still bad---really bad---but this is worse. And i'll bet they'll be quick to point that out as well.
reply
Agreed. I think there is a difference between social bullying to push views that one agrees with vs. shutting down free speech ON BEHALF OF A FOREIGN NATION.
While shutting down free speech in general is appalling, the fact that they did it at the behest of a foreign government is simply inexcusable.

Then the schools shouldn’t take the federal money they claim they need to operate while having endowments worth tens of billions. If you want to make decisions all by yourself you can but to take the money then cry foul is just stupid…. Don’t take the money then.
reply
Interesting. So you prefer the federal government imposing restrictions on speech on behalf of another country... because they gave money to the schools? Or would you prefer the schools still did have freedom of speech?
reply
I agree that it's more alarming that this is obviously at the behest of a foreign nation that has no acknowledged reason for wielding the amount of influence that it does.

I dunno if they didn’t take billions from the Federal Government that would be one thing but when you take billions from the Feds you sign away part of your independence. The majority of the protestors like with most protests were peaceful but agitators or those that were breaking the law occupying and destroying things…. The collages had no answer so the government fixed the issue for them.
They colleges were so big on being inclusive but there are countless videos of the protestors intimidating Jewish students and facility even those against Israel’s actions.

It may be an escalation, but most of these universities are government institutions.
When they prohibited wrong-think on race, gender, covid, etc. that was also using the power of the state to determine what views could be expressed.
