Gave this one a listen. Really interesting for many reasons.
I will say, when listening to him long form, I can't help but find it truly strange that he truly believes if the community had only listened to him, altcoins would have never happened. Every time an exchange like FTX collapses, he must think this. What a strange take. Anyway....
That being said, the more I hear about it, the more I find it compelling. I know all things not Bitcoin is "in vogue" to look down on. Non-Bitcoin usecases in crypto, Bitcoiners find shitty. But another viewpoint in Bitcoin, which emerged maybe from the Satoshi Dice Era is that "There is no spam" if you pay the fee, your transaction is valid. We'll, they (on Ethereum) are paying the fee. Today, Eth tx fees are about 10x Bitcoin fees. On 1/20/23, Bitcoin is #4 (behind Ethereum, Uniswap, then BSC.)
On some level, this is not surprising. The Lightning Network is still relatively early on pushing the "medium of exchange" usecase. Most still think of Bitcoin as a store of value. Altcoiners, when trying to talk shit about Bitcoin, call it a digital pet rock. Which is ridiculous, however more utility would be nice.
When I say it would be nice, it would be nice if, and only if, the base chain didn't change. If this were to happen, Bitcoin moves around more. When that happens, the security budget increases, the circular economy increases, really the whole industry prospers more.
A thing that I thought was interesting that was mentioned in the podcast was how, since most improvements could be pursued on sidechains, that this BIP could truly, 10 years from now, be the thing responsible for ossification, not a misstep on the path towards it.
I think I might be a believer in this stuff. If for no other reason, people need an easy privacy solution. A "Bit-DNS" thing like the one Satoshi talked about seems pretty cool too. Truthfully anything that people will pay tx fees for, and devs will build, should exist. If not, someone else, who aren't Bitcoin miners get the tx fees. And what do they do with that money? Pay off politicians and Greenpeace to attack Bitcoin? Let's starve them of those fees. Let's put shit on sidechains.

In the beginning there was a lot of stuff like "my presentation was really good, but no one gets it". Bro, then maybe your presentation isn't that good. Also, "if you would have listened to me, there would be no shitcoins". Idk, he seems to know a lot, but he also seems a little full of himself. I have a hard time trusting someone like that.
I don't know enough about drivechain yet to make up my mind about it, but this guy has a weird way of advertising for it
