SANTA CLARA, Calif.—October 6, 2025—AMD⁠ (NASDAQ: AMD) and OpenAI today announced a 6 gigawatt agreement to power OpenAI’s next-generation AI infrastructure across multiple generations of AMD Instinct GPUs. The first 1 gigawatt deployment of AMD Instinct MI450 GPUs is set to begin in the second half of 2026.

I am starting to wonder if this is more just messaging from OpenAI.... they didnt state where or who the power would come from and that a huge huge issue right now. I can think of a couple of places that they could try but only one is in the US the other is in Sweden.
Thats just so much power.... unless they are hoping to reactivate some nuclear power plant or something I just do not see it happening without massive blowback and protests by rate payers.

I don’t think it’s about datacenters, it’s about chips that can be used in different places around the world. Might even be to swap out the ones that eat up more power.

So the new chips and the racks that they require arnt able to be ripped and replaced into existing data centers without significant remodeling of the existing data centers..... I have asked various companies and that is the universal response so the power issue is something that is going to be an issue moving forward.
