You can:

  1. Lose it and still have access to the website
  2. Reset a regular password
  3. Lose an account that can be recreated with no loss
  4. Call customer support
  5. Only lose data, not money

Wildly different barriers to adoption.

I would argue it's more like running an email server.

No other password requires maintenance because he can be forgotten and reset.

Even running an email server is easier than self-custody. Because you can reboot it.
