Big moves today - just deployed the first Square terminal in the world accepting bitcoin.
Thank you @jack ! Cannot wait to see this come to Square devices worldwide soon.
Tested on a huge range of wallets, all worked seamlessly. The beauty of open standards. ⚡️
LOL SIX THOUSANDS ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY THREE BITCOIN a single coffee ! 😂😂😂😂😂😂
reply
This ain’t coffee, it’s a cup of water with brown ink.
this is coffee!
reply
Yes. US can't do espresso.
reply
only with tylenol 😂
reply
I am going to give my kids extra Tylenol now so that they will grow up to make good espresso.
reply
"The first order was a PSL"
For shame.
reply
What does PSL mean?
reply

The horror...
reply
That sounds like Dacia Hipster LOL
made all by plastic crap
reply
Lmao! Guess they are on the "rename satoshis to bitcoin" train?
reply
It's a disease. It's showing up everywhere in Bitcoin.
reply
they are still asking grok the difference between sats and msats 😂
reply
Yea this caught my eye too. So stupid
reply
US prices. I tried to get an espresso today and the going price was $5.45.
US prices for many things are quite high.
reply
WoW
In Portugal, there are still places where you can grab an espresso for just 1 euro.
reply
anyways, in the end they accept bitcoin. And that alone worth a salute for them.

reply
Will we have mass merchant acceptance by the end of the year?
reply
I don't think so we will see that soon in US... you guys are soooo deep into fiat mindset and ETFs.
LOL only 1400 merchants in US, even South Africa have more than you. And let's not talk about Europe with over 5400 merchants.
US... NGMI

even South Africa have more
It gets even better: Thousands more missing from that map in South Africa. Not sure why, but btcmap shows pretty much only Pick 'n Pay but very few others.
MoneyBadger, the same people behind CryptoQR which powered paying at Pick 'n Pay to begin with, have their own map showing a more complete list of merchants.
reply
If every Square terminal accepts bitcoin, though, I think that's millions of new merchants.
I know it's not driven by merchant demand, which would be better, but it will still become much easier to use bitcoin for everyday things.
reply
yes, I do not deny that, is still a big step forward.
reply
I still haven't heard whether it will be on by default and up to the customer to choose, or whether merchants will have yo "turn it on" before they can offer it to customers.
reply
I propose the following:
  • make it opt-in to switch to ON
  • the "OFF" button should not exist 😂😂
There's no going back to fiat button LOL
reply
I've been a little confused by the rollout, but I recall hearing something about how it would be turned on by default and if merchants don't opt in there would just be an automatic conversion to fiat for them.
reply
merchants need to opt-in
reply
Is that the plan long-term?
reply
I'm not sure. I was listening to the bitcoin presidio jam podcast and Steve Lee who I think works for Spiral said it would need to be turned on by merchants.
reply
Very very cool

This is like 5 years too late. This would have been good in 2021. In 2025 it’s kinda meh.
reply
I hope to see more of this, especially in this part of my world. Fiat is losing it already.
