One important point is how tough the education system is, I thought that’s what you meant. For example, here in Portugal, up to 9th grade, pretty much only the kids really struggling fail. It’s easy overall, and if someone does fail, it just ends up being a hassle for the teachers.

it's like that here in the US too, basically impossible to not move up through the grade levels from K-12.

imo it's one of the biggest problems with our education system. People get moved up a grade regardless of their learning. By the time they get to high school / college, the differences in ability can be vast. In my college classrooms, I have simultaneously kids who know calculus quite well, and others with a 5th grade level of math.
