Russia has shifted its entire economy onto a war time path. Shifting away from that is extremely difficult. After WWII the reason that the US was able to was because we were able to export civilian good en mass to a destroyed Europe and Asia.

The united states never made it out of the great depression, the military industrial complex took over because fighting nazi germany that lost the war against russia was so profitable. They only became the nation with the most military conflicts since ww2 and they start a conflict every few years. It is never about democracy or the freedom of other people.
