Ugly ugly game against the Texans. Poor coaching, poor execution. Defense couldn't do anything against one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL. Stroud had all day and absolutely torched the 49ers on 3rd down. Numerous huge completions to keep drives alive.
The 49ers are currently down their top 3 DEs and it showed. Also, in this game they had another DE go down, two DTs go down (one came back) and their LB2 go down and not return.
A decision needs to be made asap on the future of this season. They either need to get active in the trade market asap and try to bring in at very least starting caliber players at DE and DT or they need to just stand pat, punt on the season, get a mid first round draft pick and try to reload in FA next year with Bosa and Warner coming back.
I am torn because with a 5-3 record, a favourable schedule, Purdy, Pearsall and Aiyuk all scheduled to return in the next couple weeks, it is hard to give up on the season. But on the flipside, the division is strong, defensive injuries keep mounting and I am not sure one or two guys will make much of a difference. I suppose they could do some sort of half measure and try to bring a couple guys in on the cheap to tread water until Huff and Gross-Matos come back but every time the 49ers get someone back, two more guys go down.
So what should they do. Push some chips in and make some trades or punt on this season and retool for next year?
