$ is the only symbol on the keyboard that represents value transfer.

It's also the symbol Cash App is using to denote cashtags for their 70M users ($kr for example).

Finally, it's got a big S in the middle of it, makes sense as a sats replacement, and ties in to Stacker News as a brand.

Yes it could be confused with dollars in the short-term, but for the reasons above I still think $ is the best symbol on the keyboard for Stacker News to use.
