As always. It's always politics. And to think people want more of their lives governed by politics. We get what we deserve.

Yep.... I mean I am trying to hash out an exit strategy but its not as easy as I would have hoped. With the shut down paychecks have been frozen and more importantly time off payout if I leave would have been surrendered. Plus now we are in bonus season and I kinda dont want to have waited this long just to throw away my bonus.

Dude... for sure. Get as much out of it as you can. That's what politics is all about. Contrary to naive opinions.

Yeah…. I was hopeful I would be out of this job by now but… might as well stay for the money

For what it's worth, I think one of the biggest problems with our politics is that only scoundrels want to go into it. You don't seem like a scoundrel, so Washington actually needs more people like you. Too bad it probably won't make much of a difference, and you'd be totally justified in skedaddling

So I have been in DC for almost 4 years now and I spent the first year interning on The Hill in personal offices (Rep. Troy Nehls, Rep. Kay Granger, and at the time House Minority Whip Steve Scalise) before joining the Science, Space, and Tech Committee. One of the first things I learned was how quick the turn over is in DC. Of my original friends I made here all of them were gone within two years.
DC has such a cut throat attitude it really burns most people out. I am hanging on by a thread. In many ways the Government shut down did a huge positive on my mental health because the work stress and complications were gone. I had enough money to survive through the end of the year so that wasnt a worry for me but for many other it was.
I try my best to stay grounded in reality which is another thing that gets harder the longer you are here. Everything about DC isnt normal it is very much a place that is a mixture of fake and lies. Half the politicians get along across the aisle and the media doesnt show you that.

Yep! It seems that they have tried to get out now after the fact without drawing attention to it but that isnt happening. Politico is reporting how upset Federal Workers are because they see the compromise as a surrender since they got nothing out of it.

They will forget. Most people seem to have short memories
