In case you didn’t know, I changed jobs this year so that I could enrol my son in the same primary school I’m working at.
I know public formal education is kinda frowned upon by you good folks here, but it’s the best way for me to make a living. I have seen first hand how our overly academic-obsessed system crushes the spirit of our young and kills their innate interest in learning, but I think being enemies with the devil would prevent me from making the same mistakes with my boy.
Anyway, there are benefits from enrolling my boy in the same school as me. I have paved the way for him. He had to attend some orientation thingy with other incoming students while I was engrossed in a welcome talk by my principal. Not one, but two colleagues took photos of my boy acting demure in the classroom. I wouldn’t have such photos if I didn’t have any inroads into the school beforehand.
My son seemed quite at home with his new environment. He kept asking me why the food stalls were not open today. I will work hard to sustain his interest in school!
