And to think that the UK had a higher gdp per capita than the US till as recently as 2007. The fall of the country down the economic ladder has been nothing short of spectacular.
The fall of Europe in general is hard to really believe.

If you look at their policies and demographics it's not that hard to believe

On an intellectual level it makes sense but it’s hard to internalize that Europe is no longer “like America” in living standard.
That they’re poorer than the poorest American states is something I have to get used to.

I wonder if Europe just holds some extra mystique for Americans, including having existence value as being a culturally superior place full of history and sophistication. I know it certainly does for me, given that I grew up on a lot of European-inspired fantasy fiction.
Something I can't shake out of my head is the number of Europeans who will say things like, "Americans are more worried about Europe than we are"... in reference to Europe's immigration crises, declining economy, and stature in the world. I think ek had mentioned that a few times. I wonder if it's related to the Americans' mystique-value of Europe, versus Europeans focusing more on just how things are on the ground for them.

My sense is more that Europeans are the “this is fine” dog.

Yeah, perhaps. All I know is their directional movement has been extremely concerning, not just economic but cultural as well.

Most Americans do not yet realise that their empire has already lost the trade war with China. All this MAGA again nonsense - they buy it without looking at the data.
America cannot make things anymore. Things and their strategic deployment are what sustains an empire. China now totally dominates global shipping and logistics. And manufacturing and energy.
Europe has had longer to accept its decline- USA has not yet really begun the process of acceptance. Still in denial.

The UK is USAs primary military and monetary subservient tribute state.
Clinging to the coat tails of the USA to whom they passed on their empire.
Now the US empire is in decline, looking to fall to China, the UK goes down too.
