SN doesn't skim fees from non custodial zaps. They do charge a Sybil fee, including on non-custodial zaps, which goes back into the rewards pool. All of SN's revenues are generated from territory billing

Ok, thanks. Still, if they want to go non-custodial and let people zap each other directly, like on Nostr, how will they collect those sybil fees? Why are they necessary, anyway?

reply

the tx gets routed through SN's node, i believe two invoices are created, one for zap sender to SN, one from SN to zap receiver

the sybil fees are necessary so that users don't create sock puppet accounts to zap themselves in order to juice their own rankings

reply

Such a setup would be custodial, as SN are in control of the sats to forward.

yeah, perhaps. not sure about the legal issues regarding money transmittal businesses

Human nature is so inherently devious - competitive that we may never be capable of collective action, security and economy without government.

Perhaps algorithms can do some of the work but people still need to program the algorithms preferences and objectives.
