The main thing that keeps me humble is receiving most of my pleasure when I get better at things.
The less I think of myself the easier that is, because then I don't have to fear falling from some pedestal, false or not.
The only confidence I let myself keep is that if I want to get better at something, I can.
thats really awesome. i like this. takes a lot of unnecessary pressure of yourself. humility combined with self efficacy, a quiet kind of confidence. the question is how do you think less of yourself? is it just realizing that there is always more to learn/practice?

It's the absence of thinking more of yourself actually. I'm a fucking weirdo, so I don't mean to recommend it. I find most people think highly of themselves as part of their process for building courage and agency. They need to be confident that things will go well and maybe that's the healthy way to do it.
I get my courage and agency by feeling that I have nothing to lose because I am already nothing. This has been a lot easier than building confidence for me.
is it just realizing that there is always more to learn/practice?
In part, yeah. Like, you can focus on earth or focus on the other 99.999999% of the observable universe.
