Ok. I agree Americans are not into luxury but they aren't buying cheap, instead they are spending a lot lot more than the actual cost of a product. I understand that labour and transportation isn't as cheap as in India, still I can't fathom the price tags in $ on the products there.
There are so many transactions costs, it's hard to fathom how much cheaper stuff could be.
Speaking of which, we actually did find a Halloween shirt for our daughter that only cost 59 cents!

Yes, the old opportunistic you ;)
59 cents for a shirt is not possible even n India but I believe you.
Kids wear do ship to India from China as low as $0.05 cents. The same is sold by retailers at least in $0.5.
This cost increase is due to many middlemen before the product is consumed. And TBH even Trump is behaving like a middlemen while imposing tariffs.

I can't fathom why it was so cheap. I would have been less surprised if it had been $59.

Maybe they misprinted the dot before 59.

More likely that it was supposed to be $5.90 and they misprinted it. Or, they had way too much inventory and were just trying to clear it out.
