it also solves the issue with money. someone tipped bitcoin because they like what was said. if you keep the content but delete the author attribution, the tips still went to a good cause because what was said was still said.
There's definitely a case to be made for a delete of that kind. The problem is there's a case to be made for the way we did it too. And cases to be made for refunding the money. Or not allowing deletions at all.
All are valid in certain contexts and invalid in others. We opted for the design that we think had the best tradeoffs in terms of giving the author a lot of control and suiting most contexts.

I guess another argument against still showing the content would be that PII could have been included or other stuff still relating to the author.
