It’s nice and easier to hangout with people when you have something in common. For some of us, Bitcoin is a big part of our identity.

It’s possible to do the same with local Bitcoin meetups paying less and not beeing like a tourist at an empty show full of questionable sponsors, which is what I mostly see at such conferences. I don’t know if the one you shared will be like that.

I never understand or like these conference events. What’s the point there?
However, it seems the members of Bitcoinekasi are doing a great job there. I hope so.
