Coastal Construction Group delivered and placed 20,000 cu yd of concrete in a single 36-hour operation that began on the evening of Nov. 14. The contractor says the pour required more than 2,100 truckloads from two suppliers, sourced from at least 10 different plants. A team of 250 workers was involved with the pour, which also required 2,400 tons of reinforcement steel.
While the Bentley Residences foundation is runner-up to the 21,200 cubic yards of cement placed for Los Angeles’s Wilshire Grand Center in February 2014, it holds the distinction of being Florida’s largest pour for a residential mat foundation.
Coastal Construction Vice President Jamie Corbett says four months of planning and preparation preceded the placement, with numerous meetings involving project team subcontractors and engineers, the City of Sunny Isles, and the Florida Department of Transportation.
“We conducted several dry runs to ensure our plan would work,” Corbett says, adding that the meticulous advance effort paid off and resulted in a “flawless pour.”
“Vertical construction started the following day,” he adds.
Led by Dezer Development in partnership with Bentley Motors, the 716-ft-tall Bentley Residences will feature 216 luxury units, each with its own multi-vehicle garage directly accessible by “the Dezervator”–a patented car elevator system that debuted in 2015 with Dezer’s nearby 60-story Porsche Design Tower. The project’s planned 20,000 sq ft of amenities includes a private restaurant, cinema, spa, fitness center, and landscaped beach club with cabanas.
Corbett says the tower is on track to top out in mid-July 2027, with delivery expected the following year.
