A fierce privacy debate erupted in India this week after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government was forced to rescind an order requiring smartphone makers to preload a state-run cyber safety app on all devices after activists and politicians raised concerns about potential snooping.
According to the new order government wanted to preload all phones with an app which will have always on GPS. Nobody seemed interested and supportive of this move by the government. I must say this is one of the dumbest moves by Modi government because they knew that it can't be implemented.
The Indian constitution has much clearer wording when it comes right to privacy. Article 21 says "No person shall be deprived of his life or personal liberty except according to procedure established by law."
Yes it doesn't define what personal liberty is but there are other articles which improve on it suggesting what are fundamental rights. Their scope is much wider.
