Whether this was deliberate or not (it still seems up for debate), it's simply bullshit that a car should have this kind of potential problem. We're running a 20+ year old Hyundai, and I'd rather have a car I know can be fixed (often by myself) than one that can be locked down by hacking or errors.

I have to think that it was on purpose. These cars rely on their manufacturer and with the war it’s an easy and annoying way to hit the Russian Elite
