Navigation in general is a bit laggy and I can see it in some of the backend dashboards. There's no great reason for anything on the site being that slow other than we haven't spent enough time trying to make them fast.

It's kind of like gaining weight. Simply following your instincts without reigning it in periodically is a recipe for chubby. There's also anomalous load events like gaining weight over the holidays.
