Have been using the Blockstream green Android app for sometime as my daily driver to pay with Lightning. It has been reasonably reliable. But about a week back, they said the lightning channel closed and I have to move my lightning balance to on-chain. I managed to recover the fund with an on-chain transaction.

Also, it seems the Lightning tab disappeared from my wallet, so I thought Blockstream stopped lightning support on the phone app.

YesterdayYesterday

The Android app got updated to version 5.1.4, and the lightning is back. My lightning tab shows a residue of 546 sats that I cannot move because the app is showing error

Input could not afford fees.

On top of that, the app has a banner saying something like it offers a seamless swap between lightning sat and L-BTC, and a guide that points to this page.

Funny enough, I cannot receive anything to add to the 546 Sats on my lightning tab, because I cannot create an invoice worth even 1 sat. The app complains

The amount is above my inbound liquidity

So seems like that 546 Sats and my lightning wallet are in a limbo, that you can neither add, nor take out from.

QuestionsQuestions

  • Any way to reuse the lightning on Blockstream, together with my 546 Sats sitting there?
  • Going forward, should I use Liquid sats (I don't have any yet, but can swap) to pay lightning invoices? Does it seem like Blockstream (the company) is putting its weight behind L-BTC? But is it safe?

If anyone who has experience with the Blockstream app can advice, it will be great.

Thanks for sharing, I went through the post, and in particular, this line caught my attention.

Users pay Lightning invoices from a Liquid bitcoin (LBTC) balance and receive Lightning payments that add to their LBTC balance automatically.

I read it as saying the Liquid balance takes care of both Lightning and Liquid transactions (incoming or outgoing).

But in the app, at least the current one I have that is not really the case. My lightning balance is 540 Sats, and I cannot add anything. My liquid balance is about 20,000 Sats, but when I try to Send from it, I am asked for a Liquid address, a lightning address (username@coinos.io, as an example) is rejected as invalid.

So not sure if I am reading it wrong, or they are misleading or this is a feature yet to arrive. Meanwhile, I cannot use the app for any lightning (send or receive).

546 sats is the dust limit. That's why you cannot "empty" that channel, not even close it. Getting those few sats in onchain utxo will end up with a useless utxo, a zombie. Also couldn't cover the fees.

I think Blockstream app only want to avoid these cases. Indeed the UI should display it in another way.

My advice: forget it. Blockstream app is now a crap app.

Haha. The reason why I can't do this meme yet is that every time I want to test it due to some announcement, it's not yet on f-droid, and then I forget quickly that I wanted to do that.
