I agree. In the context of AI, I also feel that this is why all the AGI LARP is so dystopian.

If super-general-intelligent AI does everything and we really get into Elon's scenario of everyone on UBI... then all goals disappear and thus life becomes meaningless. AI will take care of everything.
What reason is there to live if everything is taken care of for us?

Of course. I wasn't commenting on the likelihood at all! But there are very prominent / extremely rich people that get funded billions spreading this shit. Let's imagine that they are really working on this, then shouldn't we wonder: why are the people that TIME admires so much (#1329887) working on something that not only is unlikely, but is in humanity's interest to never be realized?
