A capsule returns ancient asteroid dust to Earth, revealing water, carbon, and DNA building blocks. Bennu’s secrets suggest life’s ingredients arrived from space, rewriting humanity’s cosmic origin story forever changed.
Pretty surprising discovery. This isn't the normal finding of methane and other simple organic molecules like that. They found full blown amino acids and nucleotides.
I remember similar claims where, later it turned out the measurements had contaminated the samples with compounds from the earth.
Looking at the video and the mention of the clean room, I will assume that they took good care of avoiding such contamination.
Pretty cool observation indeed if true.
Yeah, assuming things are being described accurately, at the very least we're learning how hard it is to avoid contamination.
If they find it in asteroid the same could be found here in earth. Could be from asteroids or could be from here. Anything change I suppose.
True, but we didn't know that these compounds existed anywhere other than Earth. Now, it would be surprising if they aren't ubiquitous.
Right, I didn’t think about that. If those compounds exist in a so aggressive environment like an asteroid, they could exist in another places too.
Simon Whistler. He seems like such a good person that I'm just waiting for him to turn out to be some kind of psycho.
