Say what you want about Zion, but they are pretty good at the shiny parts of marketing.
Excited to try out something built on Web5.

Yeah, the guy got his start paying Instagram Influencers to pump products before they allowed actual ads. He was a marketing force.

Web5 Doesn't even mean anything
reply
Agree.
We need more people building on Bitcoin, and fewer people blindly dismissing new products before they try them.

Sadly too little, too late. I would have been all about this 6 months ago but even then I could start to see how Nostr was going to be a whole new level of social engagement beyond what any one or two centralized app replacements could be on their own.
I'd advise Zion devs to make this into a Nostr client asap.
reply
They are hiring a nostr dev. They might be able to create some kind of bridge.

It's going to be tough to compete against nostr, I think. Or?

Does Web5 mean they are a direct Nostr competitor?
Could there be a way to use elements of Web5 & Nostr together?
Could the combination of internet and identity protocols yield a result that’s greater than the results of a single protocol?
I don’t know the answer, but I’m glad they’re giving it a shot.
It will have dozens of users

Nostr has already won imo. Not interested in Zion.

Is anyone using this app? Whats their user base like? I see some marketing with that influencer guy but didn't try it out, how many btc social apps are there going to be? Whats its USP?

Creator economy will be a good way to boost creativity and help preserve intellectual property

I'm still struggling to know the difference between Web3 and Web5?
reply
Web 3s sell decentralization, but it's really just web 2 plus a token VCs are dumping on retail. It's a funding mechanism searching for a usecase. Web 5 has no blockchains whenever possible. If one is necessary, they use bitcoin's instead of making a new one. This misses the opportunity to pump and dump a token, which has become the favorite new type of venture for Silicon Valley VCs, because they don't have to wait for a project to become profitable. Since Web5 can't make money off of a new token, they must create a product that provides the market value.

Did I miss Web4?
