Gonna be huge for a lot of apps, esp for us at Mutiny. Getting access to push notifications should allow for a good "offline lightning receives" experience without having to go through the app stores. Plus prompting people to install via their new third party home screen install controls should raise a lot more awareness for PWAs as well.

love it, these look like meaningful improvements.
curious to hear people’s thoughts on why apple is taking this action to improve web apps… seems like it might hurt their app store business

For one they seem to be getting a lot of regulatory pressure, so this may ease that a little bit. For two, you can only push back on web standard support for so long without it negatively effecting their standing in the web community.

Also remember Apple was at the forefront of the mobile web industry.
Because they launched the iPhone without an app store and proudly said the web was app store (paraphrasing). That and killing Flash were some of the best mobile web milestones.
