Assume you trust the clone fully to do your current job enthusiastically. Then you do all the rest and relaxation you require.

What do you imagine you'd do next?

(I found this question on this blog which I've been exploring lately.)

Probably I'd do a trade job :-)

reply

That's going to be such a shitshow.

I'd probably banish myself to Mars. Or some total immersion virtual reality, but I guess that only happens if Zuck clones himself too and actually finishes the damn metaverse.

Heck, yeah!

Why do you need a clone of yourself to do that?

reply

I have two jobs right now.

reply

I've seen way too many sci-fi and horror movies to think this ever goes well.

But if I somehow had reason to believe that nothing would go wrong, I'd spend a lot of time both hiking and reading.

reply

I want to say I'd help out my clone, because I really need like three clones to get what I want done, but I think the point is to get at what else you'd work on.

  1. I'd probably start another project of some kind.
    • One thing I'd like to figure out how to get people self-hosting bitcoin ecommerce sites colocated with their nodes. Most of what we found looking for this were intense plugin monstrosities.
    • There's also an idea for a toy chat app I've wanted to build.
    • Based on our recent WYSIWYG experiences, maybe I could build a great open source Canvas-based WYSIWYG.
    • Or I'd start searching for some productive use for AI that no one was bothering to do yet
  2. If I'm not starting another software project, I'd probably spend most my time doing art of some kind. Then pair that with contributing to base layer Bitcoin stuff in some fashion.
    • This is how I've imagined myself retiring
reply

YES to the open source Canvas!

I find Canvas very useful, but holy crap, even if you subscribe, they still harass you all the time - "for only XX, you could have the premium pack" and stuff like that, blocking your main work screen all the time.

I was thinking about trying to learn Gimp, but it's a little daunting, considering how rarely I use image software.

reply

Beat way to learn gimp is to use it. Give yourself a goal (like making a certain kind of meme every week), then watch tutorials on how to so it. You'll be able to use gimp in no time!

I think you mean Canva? I've heard mixed things and my experience using it mirrors yours. @Scoresby is a Gimp pro. He might have some tips on getting started.

I meant Canvas API which is not entirely unrelated actually.

reply

Oh, ha ha, I did mean Canva. Funny cause I've used both, but Canva much more recently.

reply

My fun answer is that I would write fiction.

However, a more serious answer is this:

Full time SN evangelism. At least for six most months. Posting about what is cool about SN on x, on reddit, on nostr, and LinkedIn. More time at meetups, maybe even more time conferences (Lord help me).

What's odd is that this would probably mean I would spend less time on SN (my clone would get to do it all, which really isn't fair...I'd probably order my clone to do all the above and just keep doing what I'm doing here).

reply

Go fishing... and hunting all day :-)

reply

That sounds dreamy. I bet that wouldn't have to get boring either.

reply

jaja harías de tu clon tu pastelera personal

Yeii 🤣

reply

If he's a clone of me, he'd probably say to me, "How do you know I'm the clone and you're the real one?"

reply

Assume that he accepts that he's the clone?

reply

So, assuming it's a clone of me that inherits all my skills, including mental, physical, and social capabilities, but it has no will of its own (other than to make decisions so as to carry out the tasks I give it), and it has no legal identity of its own (so that all the benefits of his work accrue to me)...

I'd set it to:

  1. Do my teaching for me
  2. Do my housework for me
  3. Manage my investments for me and/or take on consulting work.

I'd still do my research and work on my own side projects. Part of the joy in that is the knowledge and skills you gain. It wouldn't really be the same if I had someone else do it on my behalf.

By setting it to do tasks 1-3 above, I free up more of my time and also boost my own finances, while being able to focus in on the parts of my work that I actually enjoy, as well as freeing up time for leisure and other projects.

That probably wouldn't take very long. How about after?

What do you like about https://visakanv.com/marketing/questions/?

Also, I had saved the link above, and then tried searching for it in the stacker news search. But I couldn't make it come up.

reply

That blog is full of interesting questions.

If I could ditch my wife and kids for about a year, I will most like to travel around the world, make friends with the locals, test my mettle when difficulties arise, blog about my (mis)adventures and generally be a connector across cultures.

If that clone were to take over just my job, I guess I would like to spend more time reflecting and penning thoughtful pieces. Sometimes I write things in a rush because I have two kids clamouring for my attention. But if I wait for the perfect conditions to align, I will never get to write at all. So, I guess I want to be introspective more leisurely and luxuriously

I'd sit and observe the clone.

reply
What do you imagine you'd do next?

Besides two chicks at the same time?

reply

Most jobs inquire much research in beginning then every thing comes to routine.

reply

Am already doing exactly what I want to do - thanks to Bitcoin.

reply

Why would I want to enslave someone to do what I do?

Anyway… if I could keep my earnings without work I probably would work to profit twice of my earnings.

reply

Probably end up feeling bad for my clone and offer him to go halfsies on the work week so we can both have free time

reply

If I knew my clone would handle my current responsibilities with care and skill, my next step would be to deliberately explore the work that exists beyond my existing routine. I would use the freed time and energy to immerse myself in the kind of deep learning and creative thinking that often gets pushed aside in the rush of daily tasks.

The real advantage in such a scenario is not simply rest but the possibility of engaging in higher leverage activities. I would look at new opportunities more intentionally, spend time cultivating relationships, and experiment with ideas that have long sat on the shelf waiting for attention.

This kind of thinking prompts a bigger question: How often do we postpone the work that might truly move us forward because we remain tied to what is urgent instead of what is important? If the clone takes care of the urgent let the original expand into the important. That shift in focus might be the most valuable outcome of all...
